Standards Representation

The compliance of many products and services with British and International standards is generally regarded as a prerequisite for customer confidence and hence business success.

Although some perceive them to be time-honoured norms against which products and services characterise performance or best practice, standards are in fact regularly in review providing periodic revisions and amendments.

These reviews rely heavily on the contribution of technical experts familiar with up to date developments who can be nominated for membership of standards committees in a variety of ways, for example via trade associations, government departments, academia as well as direct from industry.

Whilst ultimately sent out for wider comment before a standard in review is published, the development of a new standard needs the input given at committees by all members. This may take the form of technological development, experience of best practice, legal issues, etc.

There is an opportunity for a company, therefore, whose business relies heavily on conforming to product and/or service standards, to ask a technical expert to be co-opted onto a committee and participate in the standards making process. This, in turn, enables such a company to at least be aware of progress and even exert some influence on the way a standard develops.

The directors at Downstream Gas have extensive experience of the standards making process and have reported to their former companies on a wide range of gas related standards in particular those being reviewed at the British Standards Institute in London.

Downstream Gas offers companies the opportunity to be represented at standards committees.
