Downstream Gas Ltd Press Release

Downstream Gas and CORGI working together to bring you a NEW Publication, which informs gas operatives how to use portable electronic combustion gas analysers

Recent publication in partnership with CORGIDownstream Gas Limited, a gas consultancy company specialising in the way gas is used downstream of the meter, has teamed-up with CORGI to launch a new landmark and topical publication, which explains how best an operative can use a portable electronic combustion gas analyser to improve the safety of gas users in this country by identifying situations where CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) is escaping, or threatens to escape, in properties.

Since being prominent in the development of the British Standard BS 7967, which was published at the end of 2005, Downstream Gas and CORGI formed a partnership to prepare a guide for use by competent gas operatives when responding to reports of fumes/smells in properties. The guide takes the British Standard 7967 Parts 1, 2 and 3 and translates it into an easy to read handbook for the operative, who will now be in a position to use the analyser to supplement their gas competence and offer the gas user a more comprehensive safety service than ever before.

Kevin Moore of Downstream Gas, says “Only now has there been suitable and consistent guidance for the operative to approach the threat of toxic CO within a dwelling with appropriate instrumentation used in a way the gas industry has agreed. This is a significant step towards improving safety in the home.”

Recommending the publication to competent gas operatives as one of its Gas Installer manuals, CORGI has acknowledged the important part a correctly used analyser can play to maximise safety in the home.

Downstream Gas is busily engaged in developing appropriate training that will provide gas operatives with the required skills to effectively respond to reports of fumes.

CO is a killer of stealth that remains a primary concern throughout the gas industry. ‘Using Portable Electronic Combustion Gas Analysers for Investigating Reports of Fumes’ has been written with the express intention of tackling the problem by giving operatives effective tools to measure the levels of this insidious killer.
